Job description

Celeres is a high-tech engineering company specialising in the design, integration and operation of complex, mission-critical systems and applications worldwide.

We deliver turnkey projects, engineering services and advanced technological solutions across the Space, Aerospace, Energy, Scientific Facilities and Defence & Security sectors. Our end-to-end approach covers the entire system lifecycle, from initial design and development to validation, maintenance and obsolescence management.

The role:

With extensive experience in the space industry, Celeres develops launch vehicle systems, including the Ariane family, as well as Ground Control & Command systems for launchers and Earth observation satellites, serving both civil and military applications.

We are looking for a Senior Engineer for Ground Segment Development to join our engineering team and contribute to the development of a mission control centre for a European spacecraft.

In this role, you will be involved in the design, integration and configuration of space mission control and data preparation systems based on the EGS-CC (European Ground Systems – Common Core) architecture, supporting the monitoring and control of the spacecraft.

Position activities:

  • Your main responsibilities will include:

    • System Integration & Configuration: Integrate, configure and customize EGS-CC components to develop mission-specific ground control systems (EGSE/MCS).

    • Software Development & Extension: Develop custom adapters, plugins and extensions within the Java/OSGi framework to adapt EGS-CC functionalities to specific space mission requirements.

    • Data Modelling: Define, validate and maintain mission database models using the EGS-CC Conceptual Data Model (CDM) and Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF).

    • Verification & Testing: Perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and end-to-end validation of mission control systems.

    • Technical Documentation: Prepare and maintain design documentation, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), test plans and procedures in accordance with space software engineering guidelines.

    • Technical Leadership & Mentoring: Act as a subject matter expert on EGS-CC standards and technologies, providing technical guidance to junior engineers and collaborating with ESA and industry consortium stakeholders.

Requirements

Your profile:

  • Degree in Computer Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or a related technical discipline.

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in software engineering.

  • Strong proficiency in Java development and component-based modular architectures using OSGi (Apache Karaf/Felix).

  • Experience with Model-Driven Engineering, particularly Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF), Eclipse RCP and XML/JSON data modelling schemas.

  • Solid understanding of ECSS standards, particularly ECSS-E-ST-70-41 and Packet Utilisation Standard (PUS), as well as spacecraft telemetry and telecommand (TM/TC) processing.

  • Familiarity with modern Web UI technologies, including ReactJS, Redux and TypeScript.

  • Experience with DevOps practices, Docker and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly when troubleshooting complex middleware and distributed software architectures.

  • Ability to work effectively in multicultural, multi-company engineering teams and international project environments.

  • High level of English (B2).

Nice to have:

  • At least 3 years of direct experience working with the EGS-CC kernel, EGS-CC web components or CDM modelling tools.

  • Previous experience working on European space programmes.

  • Knowledge of ground segment systems and spacecraft mission operations.

What do we offer?

  • Stability: A full-time position with a permanent contract.
  • Challenging projects: The opportunity to work on cutting-edge technological projects with international impact.
  • Work-life balance: Flexible working hours and a hybrid working model.
  • Professional growth: Access to exclusive discounts on training programmes with UOC and opportunities for continuous learning and development.
  • Flexible benefits: A Flexible Compensation Plan tailored to your needs, including Ticket Restaurant and the option to purchase additional holidays.
